During our research we have discovered that Sydney > Dallas on Qantas is a good option as it is not as popular as Sydney > Los Angeles so tickets are easier to get and often less expensive. Also, the plaine used on the route is configured to seat 356 passengers but can carry only about 320 people because the long distance requires a lighter load.
